What Makes a Rude Rebel?

Unlike the other shirts in our collection, The Rude Rebel isn’t named after a musician, producer or ska legend. This one is named after us.

And there’s a reason for that.

Rude Rebel was born from a genuine love of the music, clothing and subcultures that have been part of our lives for decades.

The “Rude” has its roots in Jamaica – rude boys, sound systems, ska, rocksteady and reggae. Music that travelled across the Atlantic and became woven into the fabric of British youth culture.

The “Rebel” represents the attitude that came with it. Independence. Individuality. Doing things your own way rather than simply following the crowd.

Those influences came together on the streets of Britain. Jamaican music mixed with sharp British working-class style and became part of the identity of mods, skinheads, rude boys and, later, the 2-Tone generation.

That mixture of music, style and attitude is at the heart of Rude Rebel Clothing.

We’re not a company that discovered subculture because we thought it might make a good clothing brand. We’ve been part of the scene ourselves – running fanzines and websites, going to gigs, buying the records, supporting the bands and living the culture long before Rude Rebel Clothing existed.

We’re still doing it today.

So if any shirt deserves to carry the Rude Rebel name, it’s this one.
