Why “The Toots”?
The Toots is named in tribute to Frederick “Toots” Hibbert, legendary frontman of Toots and the Maytals and one of the most important figures in the history of Jamaican music.
From the early days of ska through rocksteady and reggae, Toots’ unmistakable soulful voice helped take Jamaican music to audiences around the world. The Maytals’ 1968 track Do the Reggay is widely credited as the first record to put the word “reggae” on record – making Toots forever part of the music’s history.
It’s a fitting name for a Rude Rebel shirt: a small tribute to one of the true originals.
